Video producer, science journalist
I've covered climate change, science, technology and policy. And I've done it on video, for digital publications and for print.
Segment producer, Scripps News
As a producer for Scripps News network, I created television segments on science, medicine, environment and technology.
Producer, PBS NewsHour
Working with student video journalists for the Student Reporting Labs, I co-produced and co-edited explainers, montages, and news pieces.
Created "Thaw" for Vox
I created, field produced, hosted, wrote, co-shot, and co-edited Thaw, a three-part series on the Arctic for Vox, with 1.8M views across platforms. Other channels I've written for include Be Smart and Hot Mess.
Included in Best American Science and Nature Writing
My profile of controversial climate scientist Jennifer Francis was included in the 2015 Best American Science and Nature Writing anthology.
MIT Knight Fellowship: Climate and Art
I became the only journalist to receive the prestigious MIT Knight Science Journalism fellowship twice. During the first year, I created a juried art exhibition on climate impacts called To Extremes. During the second, I taught a class at RISD on tablet apps and designed an augmented reality app to explore sea level rise.
Reporter and Editor, Science magazine
As a reporter for Science, I covered science policy, climate, earth science, and energy technology. As co-founder and editor of the ScienceInsider news site, I wrote daily articles and managed daily coverage of science policy covering Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court and federal agencies.
Great visual media means solid collaborations.
I’ve had the privilege of partnering with talented video professionals. As a producer I’m proud to see my script or vision enhanced by collaborators’ creative skills. Together we make work that’s more powerful because of our partnership.
Eli has produced some of the best content I’ve had the pleasure of working on. I don’t know anyone with his level of knowledge and experience in science, journalism, film production, project management, and writing. The perfect combination to tell some really impactful stories about our changing world and humanity. On top of that, he’s a great team lead and friend. I look forward to working together again.
Eli is very thorough, creative, and fun to work with. We’ve collaborated on several short segment that Eli produced for the news magazine show “The Why.”
Eli was instrumental in brainstorming during pre-production phase of a 30 minute doc. Specifically the narrative flow, key story elements, and developing visual themes.
Whether it’s a story about Medicare drug prices, nuclear war, or UFOs, collaborating with Eli to make television is always such a pleasure. He brings a smart and creative approach to every story, and works to craft a great script every time. There’s no topic Eli can’t tackle, always turning it into a story that leaves audiences better informed, and dare I say it, entertained!
